EXT: LAKE IN THE FOREST - OVERCAST MORNING
The lake is centred with a dark forest around it, the canopy allowing barely any of the morning sun to filter into the surroundings. The lake, and by extension the feelings associated with the scene, are tranquil and calm, the small amount of blue allowed to pass through the leaves reflecting across the bright lake.
Ari is beaming, her eyes full of light and a bright smile on her face. She is visibly younger (young teenager) than the present, her smile in response to someone off camera. Her hair is bright red, only red. Light filters into the clearing through an opening in the canopy, lighting up her face and hair even brighter. She is looking intensely towards the lake.
We see a glimpse of another person, a boy only two- or three-years older than Ari. The wind is softly rustling the trees as he moves in closer and places his hands on Ari’s shoulders.
Ari turns around with a start, her intense stare interrupted. She giggles, sounding like windchimes, when she realises the mysterious person is her brother.
Kayden smiles and pulls his sister in for a hug, Ari melting into his embrace while never taking her eyes off the lake in front of them.
The music swells.
EXT: LAKE IN THE FOREST – 2AM
The trees around the lake seem to be older, a small pier now built over the darker, murkier parts of the water. There is still only the sound of the wind but it is no longer calm and tranquil. This part of the forest now feels eerie and uncanny, the feeling of being drawn to the lake, even if it will harm, is imminent.
The sound of someone, a now adult Ari, gasping can be heard. Ari stands by the shallow bank of the lake, her hands covered in blood that is not her own. Her chest rises and falls with shaky breaths, her hair is tinged with a soft pink, her eyes light purple. Something is very wrong.
The music thins
INT: ARI’S BEDROOM – SUNRISE
The sun casts a glow onto Ari’s blank face as she sits on her bed, Kayden looking worried on the seat opposite her. There’s a heavy silence in the room
EXT: THE FOREST, THE LAKE IN VIEW – NIGHT (FLASHBACK)
Ari, or at least it looks like Ari with pink hair and purple eyes, stands in the dark, a cruel smile on her face. Her eyes glow and her teeth seem unnaturally sharp as she opens her mouth to say something silently. Her eyes close.
EXT: ON THE PIER – NIGHT (FLASHBACK)
So called Ari’s eyes open to an unknown person in front of them, standing on the edge of the pier. The canopy of trees keeps the bright moonlight out, making the lake dangerously dark. It is too dark to realise who the other person is.
The being posing as Ari closes their eyes.
EXT: LAKE IN THE FOREST – JUST BEFORE 2AM (Flashback)
The water of the lake ripples as if something has disrupted its peace. There is a loud feminine scream. No one knows who it is. Red tinges the water.
EXT: LAKE IN THE FOREST – 2AM (Flashback)
It is the moment from before, Ari standing by the bank of the lake. Her body is shaking and she is blinking rapidly. She’s disoriented and tired. Another person, Kayden comes into frame frantically, catching Ari as she faints.
INT: ARI’S BEDROOM – SUNRISE (End of Flashback)
Kayden looks concerned at this answer, looking out the window for something else to say. For some way to help.
Ari’s eyes are almost back to their original colour, her hair remaining to be tinged in pink. Ari closes her eyes and takes a shaky breath.
